Safety Information

Your safety is our priority! Please remember the following while at the Kitchen:

• Wash hands thoroughly before starting, after handling any food, and after breaks.
• Wear gloves when preparing sandwiches and handling food items. Change gloves regularly, especially after handling allergens.
• Wear closed-toe, non-slip shoes and keep long hair tied back or under a hat.
• Follow food safety protocols: Keep work surfaces clean, separate raw and ready-to-eat foods, and sanitize equipment and surfaces regularly.
• Handle knives and kitchen equipment carefully—use only what you have been trained to use.
• Keep the kitchen tidy: Clean as you go and wipe up any spills immediately.
• Be aware of allergies: Many sandwiches contain peanut butter, nuts, dairy, or other allergens. Always follow posted procedures to avoid cross-contact, and never substitute ingredients unless directed by a supervisor.
• Inform a supervisor immediately if you have an allergy, notice a spill, injury, or unsafe condition.

NOTICE: Children under 17 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult for any shift. The minimum age to volunteer is 10, and minors age 10-15 are only allowed for our sandwich-making shift.
Children under 10 are welcome to join with their guardian, but a guardian must complete a volunteer waiver for each minor. When signing up for a shift with children under 10, please register only yourself; they can assist you during the shift but should not be signed up individually as children under 10 are not counted as volunteers, as their ability to participate independently is limited. All participants must follow our health and safety standards and volunteer guidelines.

Cancellation Policy

To help us serve our community efficiently, please remember our 24-hour cancellation policy for all volunteer shifts:
• If you need to cancel a scheduled shift, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance.
• You can cancel by logging into your volunteer account, emailing, or calling our office.
• Last-minute cancellations make it challenging to fill your spot and can impact our ability to serve those in need.
• If you have an emergency or sudden illness, let us know as soon as possible—your health comes first.
