About Us

Our Mission

"Neighbors

Feeding

Neighbors

Every Day"

Nearly 35 years after its opening, we continue to make history. The Food Center has become the leading hunger relief organization serving Flagstaff and the broader northern Arizona region. Our mission, “Neighbors Feeding Neighbors, Every Day,” motivates us to provide hunger relief and hope to individuals and families. This is achieved through food distribution, prepared meals, and community outreach programs.

Our History

"George always believed that the Flagstaff Family Food Center would become a cornerstone in our city for those struggling to make ends meet."

Local businessman and philanthropist George McCullough was renowned for his generosity. He would hand his business card to anyone he met on the street who needed assistance, directing them to the Grand Canyon Café for a hot meal and informing them that they could use his card to cover the cost. At the end of each month, he would settle the bill with the restaurant owners, Fred and Tina Wong.

McCullough’s kindness became widely recognized throughout Flagstaff, ultimately leading to the establishment of a community kitchen, which opened on Christmas Day in 1991 in the basement of his church. In 1994, this operation received its IRS Letter of Determination, granting it 501(c)(3) status under the Flagstaff Family Food Center name.

Born and raised in Flagstaff, George had a deep love for his city. He often stated that he would do anything to ensure that community members had dinner every night. Although he passed away in 2007, George always believed that the Flagstaff Family Food Center would become a cornerstone in our city for those struggling to make ends meet.
